The PBS presentation “Growing Up Online” brings up and serious issue that affects the future of the world. Why? It is because the issue pertaining to kids on the internet and their addiction to the World Wide Web (WWW) which is corrupting their minds. Some may this doesn’t make any sense whatsoever like the adolescence. The parents are those who are actually concerned about this epidemic. The new trend of being online is making parents concerned of their children’s well-being.
Majority of kids are spending their time locked up in their rooms spending their time on their computer. The children have created a virtual community that takes time away from the real world, hence Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and many other sites. The parents can never get through with their kids by just calling them. Parents have a better chance of sending an email to their child and therefore have a better chance of getting a response.
A lot of parents are scared because they are isolated from seeing what their kids are doings. There are a lot of obstacles that the Internet has that can corrupt the mind of a child. For example, on the Internet there is pornography: explicit pictures of nude individuals, predators, molesters, stalkers, basically there are a lot of crazy psychotic individuals in today’s society.
The Internet has its flaws but also it can be very beneficial to a lot of people in world. Today is known as the Information Age and all the information that is essential is just a click away.
I would say the person who spends the most money on their campaign is the one who turns out victorious. And my idea was proven right in the 2009 presidential elections. Our former president Barack Obama was the one candidate who raised and spends the most cash on his campaign. Barack Obama has his own social-networking site, www.barackobama.com which I believe helped him for his win the 2009 presidential elections.
Barack Obama social networking site also known as MyBO was part of the reason why he won. He gathered fifty five million dollars in just donations in a single month. The social networking site help promote his campaign because people can get in contact with other people and they could spread the word. Most of Americans spend their time online and that was what Obama campaign did, they seized the opportunity by “dominating the new media.” Nowadays many people spend less time watching commercials on T.V. reading advertisements in newspapers and magazines. The only efficient way o getting the people’s attention in today’s society is to capitalize on the new media; which is what led President Barack Obama to his victory.
The use of the internet cannot always be a harmful addiction. The internet is a fundamentally source which can help “business school students and help abuse children rediscover social skills.” Second Life is a computer game which allows you to fly, drive and other things, just like if someone is living a regular life. The game helps the abused children, by teaching them socialization, collaboration, team building, and computer skills. It shows them what life if really like, but out them actually experience it only virtually.
Many Professors agree with computer game “Second Life.” The game also give a sense of starting your own business by selling things like housing, cars, etc etc ……… The game is not a chatting network or has any sort of interaction with other people, if so there is a limit to how much people can interact with each other. The idea of making a game that is fun and it is educational is a wonderful idea, but making a game like Second Life, which is also safe from chatting away with people you don’t know and helps abused children is a phenomenally idea.
